Music Makes the World Go Round

Yeah I know. I’ve been MIA for a while now. That’s summer for you though! I hope everyone is enjoying theirs because I know I definitely am. Anyways I better give you guys a song to listen to.

So you all know the one Kia Soul commercial with the fat hamsters singing, “You could get with this….or you could get with that.” Right? If you haven’t I know it sounds really stupid but the song is really catchy and I’ve been listening to it all week. It’s called The Choice is Yours by Blacksheep. Check it!

Also I know some of you guys have heard of Cage the Elephant. It took me a little while to jump on this bandwagon but the more I hear of these guys the more I love them!

Oh and in some other news Augustana should have a new album coming out later this year. I promise to be back to post some more. Anyways I’m off to the BEACH!!!

What exactly makes a song a classic? I mean we’ve got classical music…but I’m thinking more along the lines of classic rock. Yes those classics.

Well I’m throwing to together a bit of a short list. If you don’t know who these bands are you really need to check them out? Are you ready?

Boston, Foreigner, The Cars, Kansas, Metallica, Journey, The Eagles, Queen, Styx, The Beatles(if you don’t know these guys there is something wrong with you), Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche, Dire Straits, Blackfoot, Tom Petty, Molly Hatchet, Bruce Springsteen and there are plenty more important ones. I just figure that the list is already quite long.

Now it might just be because I’ve been watching old One Tree Hill episodes, but I just rediscovered my love of Augustana. According to their blog (which I am now following) they’ve recorded about 17-18 songs and are “just trying to widdle it down to the best 11-12”. You know what would be cool? Just give us all of them because we love you.

But seriously these guys have got some killer songs. Besides the super hit “Boston” you’ve got “Stars and Boulevards” which is amazing. The iTunes album includes a live version of that song plus “Boston” and “Bullets”.

Their other album “Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt”, includes some of my personal favorite songs which include “Meet You There” and “Either Way I’ll Break Your Heart Someday”. SOOOOOO GOOD. So let’s just hope their new album comes out soon.

My dear friends, sorry I was out. I got to experience the fun of getting your wisdom teeth out. It was alright, except for the part where I was incredibly unmotivated to do anything. But while I was out I got the brand new Motion City Soundtrack album “My Dinosaur Life”.

Everything’s alright with this cd. This isn’t my absolute favorite album by them. Word to the wise, it’s a little F-bomb heavy so if that offends you, I wouldn’t recommend this album.

This still continues in about the same vein of Even if it Kills me, so they’ve kind of come to their own, but I wish this album contained something more sing-a-long-able. I give them 3 of 5. Still by far a great album, plus some locations have a sweet dinosaur poster. Loving it!

Alright so maybe it’s because the Academy Awards were a few days ago, but really this is a great band. Their last full album was Fast Times At Barrington High. Which is actually my personal favorite.

In this album they come more to their own sound and their own identity as a band. They’ve got plenty of rocking lyrics and a great sound. I encourage you if you’re not familiar with these guys to check them out!
